Patty Cisneros Prevo, she/her/ella

As a life-long learner and advocate, Patty Cisneros Prevo has always centered her work around diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Cisneros Prevo was the Assistant Director of Inclusion & Engagement with Wisconsin Athletics, the Student Life Manager of Diversity & Inclusion for the Wisconsin School of Business, and now UW-Health’s Program Manager of Social Impact and Belonging. Cisneros Prevo published her first picture book in Spring 2023 with Lee & Low Books. Tenacious: Fifteen Adventures Alongside Disabled Athletes focuses on 15 individuals with physical disabilities and their major life and athletic accomplishments. And, in January 2021, Cisneros Prevo was appointed to the Congressional Commission on the State of the U.S. Olympics & Paralympics. Additionally, Patty Cisneros Prevo has won six National Wheelchair Basketball Association Championships, and became the first female head coach of a collegiate wheelchair basketball team with the University of Illinois, winning the national championship that same year. Three-time Paralympian Cisneros Prevo was a member of the U.S. Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Team for 10 years.  As captain of the 2008 Paralympic team, she led Team USA to its second consecutive gold medal after winning gold in 2004. Christina Schwab, born with spina bifida, discovered wheelchair basketball at the age of 11 during a summer camp and has since excelled in the sport. She has played at various levels, representing multiple US National Teams. Schwab boasts an impressive Paralympic record, competing in five games and winning gold medals in wheelchair basketball at the Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, and Rio 2016 games. In 2019, she was inducted into the NWBA Hall of Fame as an athlete member and is set to be inducted into the class of 2025 USOPC Hall of Fame as a team member of the gold medal-winning team from the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games. 

Schwab's coaching career includes working with the Denver Rolling Nuggets at the junior level, serving as an assistant coach at the University of Illinois, and leading the UW-Whitewater women’s wheelchair basketball team for six seasons. In June 2021, she was chosen as an assistant coach for the gold medal-winning Team USA Men’s Wheelchair Basketball at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. Later in December 2021, she was appointed as the Head Coach of Team USA Women’s Wheelchair Basketball, leading the team to win the silver medal at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.

Stephanie Wheeler, head coach of women’s wheelchair basketball at the University of Illinois, is a Paralympic gold medalist, World Championship gold medalist, and collegiate national champion. She was a member of the gold medal winning women’s wheelchair basketball team at both the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games. In 2013, she was selected as the head coach of the USA Women’s Wheelchair Basketball team, leading the team to gold medals at the 2015 Parapan American Games and the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. She is the first woman in her sport to coach her team to a Paralympic gold medal and the first person in her sport to win Paralympic gold medals as an athlete and coach. Stephanie’s passion is creating inclusive sporting environments. She’s consulted with the NCAA and other organizations on the inclusion of athletes with disabilities and presented keynotes and panels on creating inclusive and equitable sporting environments for athletes of all identities.
